LIVING ROOM THEATER:
AN ONLINE SUMMER INTENSIVE THEATER CAMP
We are thrilled to introduce, LIVING ROOM THEATER – an online, STUDENT DRIVEN, multi-disciplinary program (acting, song-writing, singing, dancing and visual / video arts) summer camp. We will provide 12 immersive theater sessions with a social-justice imperative - from Sat. July 18th through Sat. August 22nd - culminating into a PERSONALIZED WEBSITE PORTFOLIO – per participant , LIVE STREAM SHOWCASE and a professionally produced LIVE /IN PERSON showcase during the school year.

WHAT IS THE GOAL:
● Living Room Theater is an ethics and values-based musical theater camp with cast members aged from 5-17 years old. Utilizing the power of theater as a tool for moral reasoning, our program fosters the belief in children and youth that THROUGH THE MAGIC OF THEATER, THEY CAN BE THE VOICES OF POSITIVE CHANGE AND AGENTS OF HEALING IN THEIR COMMUNITIES.

AUDITIONS: Friday: July 10th & Saturday: July 11th - 10:30am-1:30pm
SUMMER CAMP DATES: Sat. July 18th through Sat. Aug 22nd
SESSIONS: Tuesday, Friday: 10:30-12:30pm
Saturdays: 11am - 1pm
HOW DOES IT WORK:
● Engaged in a series of robust and highly interactive sessions, supported via BOTH online learning and small-group mentoring, participants in three age groups will explore and be empowered to speak to social and ethical issues while developing their interpersonal and critical thinking skills.
CULMINATING EVENT:
● Living Room Theater Summer Camp will culminate into A PERSONALIZED ONLINE PORTFOLIO presented by each performer via LIVE STREAM (Youtube / Facebook) for parents and community – and a finale LIVE AND IN PERSON SHOWCASE at the NEW STANDARD ACADEMY at a professional theater (formerly the MCCREE. THEATER) during the school year.
WE WILL PROVIDE:
12 immersive multi-disciplinary theater-art sessions with a social-justice imperative (acting, singing, writing, spoken-word, dance, art)
LIMITED FULL & PARTIAL SCHOLARSHIPS (by nomination from teacher or mentor)
2-3 PROFESSIONAL TEACHING ARTISTS per session
Personalized website / blog site per participant
PARENT CAFE (once a week)
BOOK-PUBLISHING: Personalized digital self-publishing of student works (fiction, poetry or playwriting)
HOME DELIVERY of arts and crafts materials
HOME DELIVERY of weekly snacks
Professionally produced LIVE STREAM SHOWCASE
Professionally produced LIVE - FINALE SHOWCASE (pending clearance with Covid 19 Safety protocols).
WEEKLY ZOOM LINK: You will receive a Zoom meeting invitation from education@ctcnyc.org on the MONDAY before each camp. This will be a password protected recurring Zoom meeting. This email will also include a list of materials needed for our interactive activities the following week (ex: an empty water bottle, pipe cleaners, popsicle sticks etc.).
AUDITIONS & ASSESSMENT:
● Auditions are an assessment of existing skill-sets, regardless of starting point, and also serve as an opportunity to give young people and their parents an opportunity to make an informed opinion of our process, program and professional instructors.

WHAT SHOULD BE PREPARED FOR THE AUDITION?
● SPEAK SOMETHING: Recite a simple verse that is already memorize (ie Pledge of Allegiance or a nursery rhyme)
● SING SOMETHING: Sing Happy Birthday or a verse of a fluent and familiar song.
● ANSWER A CHALLENGE QUESTION: What is one thing that you would do to make the world a better place.
LIMITED SCHOLARSHIPS:
We only have 12 SLOTS AVAILABLE per age group, therefore SCHOLARSHIPS are on FIRST-COME, FIRST-SERVE BASIS ONLY. Please complete the ONLINE REGISTRATION, as soon as possible, and FAQs.
● To qualify for a scholarship, candidates must be nominated by a school teacher, or adult instructor or adult mentor. Scholarships are limited and are provided on a first come, first serve basis.
