AN ONLINE INTENSIVE THEATER CAMP
ENROLLMENT & AUDITIONS:
DOES MY CHILD NEED ANY EXPERIENCE?
● We look forward to learning about and integrating any special talents that young artists have developed, however, a willingness to be challenged is the only experience necessary.
ARE THERE AUDITIONS OR INTERVIEWS?
● Auditions are an assessment of existing skill-sets, regardless of starting point, and also serve as an opportunity to give young people and their parents an opportunity to make an informed opinion of our process, program and professional instructors.
HOW CAN I SCHEDULE AN AUDITION?
● Before scheduling an audition appointment, we require a brief telephone interview with a parent or primary caregiver. Please email us education@ctcnyc.org or call us at 212-633-6629 or click this link and go directly to the Registration / Application.
HOW CAN WE QUALIFY FOR A SCHOLARSHIP?
● To qualify for a scholarship, candidates must be nominated by a school teacher, or adult instructor or adult mentor. Scholarships are limited and are provided on a first-come, first-serve basis.
If you are coming from a school, please refer to them.
CAN WE OBTAIN A SIBLING SCHOLARSHIP?
● Yes, SIBLING PARTIAL & FULL SCHOLARSHIPS are also available, upon request as long you have the original school NOMINATION LETTER & PROMO CODE.
WHEN & WHERE ARE THE AUDITIONS & PROGRAMS?
● All auditions and programs are via ZOOM. Please email us at education@ctcnyc.org or call 212-633-6629 to obtain an audition appointment, or click this link and go directly to the Registration / Application. We will follow-up with a call/text or email to confirm your child’s audition appointment.

WHAT SHOULD BE PREPARED FOR THE AUDITION?
● SPEAK SOMETHING: Recite a simple verse that is already memorize (ie Pledge of Allegiance or a nursery rhyme)
● SING SOMETHING: Sing Happy Birthday or a verse of a fluent and familiar song.
● CHALLENGE QUESTION: What is one thing that you would do to make the world a better place.
PROGRAMS & OUTCOMES:
ARE THERE BEGINNER VS ADVANCED CLASSES?
● As a theater company, CTC emphasizes technique, craft and in particular, teamwork withing a rehearsal atmosphere. As such, we do not divide young performers by beginner or advanced, but rather by age-group, thus allowing performers to have evenly distributed roles, regardless of age and experience.
The following is a breakdown of each age group:
Group 1: 5-7 yrs old;
Group 2: 8-10 yrs old;
Group 3: 11-7 yrs old
WHAT IS THE CULMINATING EVENT?
● ONLINE & ONSTAGE: Each child will receive a personalized website/portfolio with their body of work. Additionally, there will be live performance of all student projects at a professional theater venue (given consideration to all Covid19 safety protocols.)
Are CTC - Zoom Classes recorded? Will I receive a copy of them?
● Yes, we will record all Zoom classes for security purposes. The only recording we will send to families is the final sharing of the last session. The final sharing will be sent to you via a YouTube private link.
● Additionally, we will be providing an on-line portfolio of each student’s body of work (including self-tapes, script writing, fiction writing, poetry, photography, singing, song writing and more)
WHAT DOES MY CHILD NEED FOR ONLINE PARTICIPATION?
● Wi-Fi & Access to an internet-enabled device with a webcam and the Zoom application
● Headphones (optional)
● A safe, clean, and quiet space (particularly during in-class recording and self-tape sessions)
HOW MANY KIDS ARE IN EACH SESSION OR GROUP? HOW MANY TEACHERS?
● We will have two - six Professional Teaching Artists and two CTC - STAGE MANAGER - assigned to each camp.
Do we have to participate for the full run of the Summer camp?
● Yes. Regular attendance and participation are vital to accomplishing the goals of our collaborative, ensemble-based program.
Will there be breaks throughout sessions?
● There will be one - two 10-minute breaks.
ROLE OF PARENTS:
What are the expectations for parents?
● CTC is proud to include PARENT CAFÉ, where parents are viewed as stakeholders and not mere by-standers. Designed to build a strong sense of community, parents are encouraged to attend a ZOOM break-out room, twice a week (for one hour)
How can I support my child’s full participation?
● As we transition to online camps, parents play an important part in the safety and success of CTC - LIVING ROOM THEATER camps. Here are some ways you can help make your child’s experience safe, fun, and successful.
Please make sure your child:
○ Uses the restroom and eats before camp starts
○ Has a glass of water nearby
○ Is provided a safe, clear, and quiet space
○ Puts away distractions (books, art supplies, toys, etc.)
○ Has access to a device with audio and video capabilities
○ Has assistance in renaming your Zoom name to your child’s name
○ Can access an adult to troubleshoot
○ Assist with any technical issues particularly on recording days.
How much rehearsal time will my child need to put in outside of camp hours?
● 15-30 minutes a day would be greatly appreciated!
When will I receive a link to camp?
● You will receive a Zoom meeting invitation from education@ctcnyc.org on the Friday before each camp. This will be a password-protected recurring Zoom meeting.
What measures are you taking to ensure safety online during camp?
● BEHAVIOR ISSUES: A CTC - Stage Manager / Administrator will be assigned to every Zoom meeting, to ensure the safety of our students and Teaching Artists, deal with logistics or technical issues, and to address any behavioral issues that might occur.
● VIDEO & PHOTOGRAPHY: Parents will be required to sign a TALENT RELEASE FORM – allowing video and photography recording of student performers.
● PERSONALIZED PORTFOLIO SAFETY: All online portfolios will be listed under child’s first name and last initial for example: www.childrenstheatercompany.org/SusanB
RATES & REFUNDS:
How much is tuition for non-scholarship students?
● The program is $177 per week or $708 for the full four weeks, for non-scholarship students.
● Siblings will receive an additional 10% off of tuition.
● Parents who attend Saturday sessions as classroom aids will receive an additional 10% off.
● Parents and Students who participate through the school will have to refer to them regarding tuition and scholoships.
What are the scholarship requirements?
1. A letter of nomination from a school faculty member OR other teaching individual in student’s life (a non-family instructor, community member, church official, mentor etc.)
2. The letter of nomination must be emailed to education@ctcnyc.org
3. The parents of students who are awarded a scholarship must attend Parent Café on Saturdays OR assist as a teacher’s aid in any one of our sessions.
What is the refund policy?
● Registrations are accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis for all camps
● Full payment is required upon registration in order to reserve a space.
● Students withdrawing at least one week prior to the start date will receive a full refund and an administrative fee of $50.00 will be charged.
● Students withdrawing 72 hours prior to the start date will receive a 50% refund and an administrative fee of $50.00 will be charged.
● No refunds will be granted 24 hrs. prior to the start date of camp.
● CTC - reserves the right to cancel any camp that does not meet enrollment requirements and will inform you no later than one week before that start date of camp.
● If we have to cancel or modify our summer camp programming, we are able to offer you the following options:
○ Transfer to another CTC Zoom camp.
○ A Credit to be used by TBD
○ A Refund with an administrative fee of $50.00
○ All refunds will be processed no later than: tbd
